The Interior Design Show West – IDS West – is our favourite of the year. The show features innovations in design with a particularly West Coast feel.

Here are some of the trends we saw throughout the show for 2017:

Metals: Mixed metals still reign, with copper being emphasized. This trend will continue well into 2017/18

Mixing Materials: This design technique is as strong as ever. With combinations of wood & metal, knits and metal, concrete & wood…the list goes on and on. 2017 is all about texture.

Reclaimed Wood: Popular as ever and mixed with more refined elements for an eclectic look

Upcycling: Renew, Refresh and Revival of old to new. We saw recycled chopsticks – collected from Sushi restaurants – used as details on furnishings as well as solid pieces such as coasters.

Lighting: We’re seeing more tinted glass lighting (Tom Dixon has some unique designs) in both smoked and copper tinted glass. Also, oversized lighting trends continue to be popular and stunning, either single pieces or in multiple groupings.

Black: Black was showcased, especially effective in bathroom fixtures for added drama.

Shapes: The hexagon still rules…and anything faceted continues to be hot for 2017

We look forward to using these design elements in 2017.
